Today Ashagre delivered his picture apology to the little girl he hurt last week. I got the honor of witnessing him give it to her. Once the little girl understood what the huge colorful piece of paper he was thrusting at her was, she immediately exclaimed, "Thank you Ashagre!" and hopped up to give him a big hug. All the other kids oohed and awed over his artwork and his teacher complemented him on writing his name so well. He was forgiven and proud.
(His momma, in the meantime, was choking back a tear or two while trying to explain how daddy forgot the class-serving of birthday cupcakes we had stayed up late to make the night before on the kitchen counter and that more would certainly be brought tomorrow).
This blog was created to chronicle our journey towards parenthood through Ethiopian adoption. Now that our kids are home it serves as a space to explore and record life as a family of four. If you feel compelled, read along as we work to create the Perfect Space for our family.
"I wanna have friends that I can trust, that love me for the man I’ve become not the man I was. I wanna have friends that will let me be all alone when being alone is all that I need. I wanna fit in to the perfect space, feel natural and safe in a volatile place."

I love the recent posts about your kids' actions that have made you proud. Imagine if all kids grew up knowing that their parents were proud of the little things. Maybe this is how self-esteem is built.
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning this JJ. I actually haven't told Ashagre I am proud of him; it probably doesn't do any good if I just write about it here and he doesn't know it. I'll make sure to tell him tonight before bed. Thanks for the reminder!
