This post is ode to my amazing husband.
My amazing husband that only slept 2 hours last night because he spent the rest of the night with one of our kids at the hospital. My amazing husband that, despite the fact that it was an un-human time to be awake, took the time to clean as much puke as he could out of the back of my car in the hospital parking lot in order to make it easier to clean up today. My amazing husband that felt the warm wash of urine in his lap and just smiled at his sick kiddo and made sure they were comfortable and cared for.
Brent doesn't have a strong stomach. Just talking about boogers at the dinner table can ruin an entire meal for him, even if he's really hungry. He doesn't change diapers. He never has and only will if the kid is his own (somehow we managed to adopt a 5 and a 6 year old and he escaped diaper duties again).
Brent was a daddy the day he admitted that Joshua Tree just wasn't the same experience without new, young eyes share it with and see it through. Last night though, he earned his parent badge, for sure.
Oh, and if you were wondering, I think the my efforts to just keep one surface clear of puke long enough to clean up the next so our sick kiddo had a clean place to unload a week or so ago probably earned me my badge. If not, the large patch of ringworm I have been sporting on my face should qualify me.
This blog was created to chronicle our journey towards parenthood through Ethiopian adoption. Now that our kids are home it serves as a space to explore and record life as a family of four. If you feel compelled, read along as we work to create the Perfect Space for our family.
"I wanna have friends that I can trust, that love me for the man I’ve become not the man I was. I wanna have friends that will let me be all alone when being alone is all that I need. I wanna fit in to the perfect space, feel natural and safe in a volatile place."

What an ordeal! I hope everyone is all right. Sending healing thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kerry! Everyone is home and back to normal, minus needing to get caught up on sleep. After re-reading this post I realized I might have caused some alarm because I didn't post many details. I purposely left things vague and names anonymous because I don't want the kids to read this someday and say, "Why did you post THAT about me on the internet?"
ReplyDeleteWhen we picked Desi up in Portland, he puked on Jonathan and peed on me before we even got home - we figured we were really his parents then!
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone is feeling better!
