Lexi sent me a link to this great article in the New Yorker regarding international adoption.
Not only does it explain the process in good detail with a real life example (in this case an adoption from Haiti that was sped up due to the earthquake), but it also lays out the pros and the cons of international adoption at both the individual and world scale. There is also a good history of America's role in international adoptions since the beginning.
Lots of food for thought. Thoughts that seem to surface in my consciousness a lot lately.
Check it out. Let me know what you think.
Thanks Lexi!
This blog was created to chronicle our journey towards parenthood through Ethiopian adoption. Now that our kids are home it serves as a space to explore and record life as a family of four. If you feel compelled, read along as we work to create the Perfect Space for our family.
"I wanna have friends that I can trust, that love me for the man I’ve become not the man I was. I wanna have friends that will let me be all alone when being alone is all that I need. I wanna fit in to the perfect space, feel natural and safe in a volatile place."

That's a great article! It's too bad that the wait to adopt has to be so long (years) requiring those kids to spend more time in an orphanage, but on the flip side if the wait helps prevent unlawful trafficking it's in the kid's best interest.
